What are they? Is probably the number one question that I get other than what do I do with them?
This is explained most effectively by outlining what the lifespan of a leafy green looks like
Microgreens are baby vegetables that are slightly older than sprouts and go through photosynthesis & improve nutrition. Each microgreen has its own flavor profile and benefits. Their overall concentrated nutrient content make them the ideal choice to get your greens in your diet daily.
They are usually harvested 7–21 days after germination, once the plant’s first true leaves have emerged. They are similar to baby greens in that they only their stems and leaves are considered edible. Though they are much smaller and can be sold prior to harvest. Allowing them to be bought whole and cut at home, keeping them alive until they are consumed.
They can be grown indoors or out, with/without soil. We've even heard of someone growing them in coconut shells! Imagine the flavor.
In the week's coming we'll take a deeper dive into individual microgreens that we grow at The Plot. If you have any you are interested in comment below and we can explore those as well.
